jewles:
I’m watching some installment of MTV’s magical program “True Life” wherein 15 and 16 year-old girls have 21 or 22 year-old boyfriends.
I NEVER would have gotten away with that! Do parents not have brains in their heads anymore? This one girl WENT ON VACATION TO CANCUN with her boyfriend. No parents. No chaperones. In the same hotel room.
WHAT THE WHAT? Am I uptight or something or is that THE WORST IDEA EVER?
Not only will my kids not be able to pull shit like that I won’t let them hang out with kids that do. If that makes me overprotective, then so be it. A 22 year old guy is only going to date a 16 year old for ONE REASON. I was a virgin until I was 18, almost 19, and it didn’t kill me so I figure it won’t kill my kids either.
Do they sell chastity belts on the Internet?
So, at 16 I dated a 23 old. It was stupid, and my parents knew of him, but not how old he was. We met at a video game store, and he knew my various other high-school aged friends. I didn’t know how old he was for a couple of weeks (I asked what school he went to, he said he “just graduated” from a school I knew of). When I did realize exactly how old he was (he offered me liquor, I questioned if he had a fake ID), red flags went up all around. He wasn’t working, or in school or doing anything except mooching off his mother, grandmother and sister.
He did meet my mother, and a LONG conversation was had. She told me not to see him anymore, I did just because it was “fun”. He got clingy when I started applying to colleges, and I ended it. I was looking at Brown and NYU, and he was talking about how he preferred New York and how great “our” apartment would be. Never did have an answer on why he would be coming, or what kind of job he’d have…
We kind of slept together once (his mother walked in, but didn’t see anything), let alone went on vacation anywhere - especially after my parents were aware of the situation. I saw him exactly once after my mother told me off. She drove me back to his place when she found out, asked him if he’d seen me, and nearly ran him down with her car when he lied.
I knew he was a loser and exactly what he was after, but it wasn’t until a friend of mine threw the word pedophile around that I realized just how messy that whole thing was.
When I actually stop to think about it, he was def not the only older person I was involved with underage. There were four, if I remember properly, a 21 year old when I was 14 (I distincly remember wondering why in the hell he wanted my number), a college junior later that same year, and this one I’ve discussed previously. He was the only one who lasted more than a few weeks, that my parents knew of, or that I was in anyway physical with.
