The foolery floating past me & the bumblings of my brain

Stand-up comedy junkie, geek, and closet romantic. Introspectively sexy. Flyyer than your girlfriend, fresher than your crew. 'Bougie', 'siddity', and generally okay with that. But sometimes, I just wanna do hoodrat stuff with my friends. My richness consists not in the extent of my possessions, but in the fewness of my wants. And all I want is simplicity and success. And maybe some more shoes.

Hello and welcome!

racebentdisney:

But before we get this blog started, I think it’s fair to do just a little introduction, and get a few questions out of the way!

What is racebending?

It’s just as simple as you think! Racebending is the casting of a character of a different race than that originally intended for that character. For the intents and purposes of this blog, racebending will be used as a creative way to explore new takes on well-known Disney stories. Race-offensive material will not be published or tolerated.

Why racebend Disney?

Disney built its market around retelling classic European fairytales, featuring predominantly Caucasian characters. While it does have films that star characters of color (Aladdin, Mulan, The Princess and the Frog), these are few and far between a long list of films with white heroes and heroines.

“Disney has always had a hard time featuring POC, and when they did they always tried as hard as possible to conform them to Western culture. So, yes, it would be nice to see a blog that respects both the cultural setting and the audience enough to do things differently.”

- @aerostarmonk

So why racebend Disney? I say: why not? Alternate settings and universes are popular and fun ways to explore new takes on old stories, and Disney provides a great framework for tweaking!

How does racebending Disney work?

Any way you want! This blog welcomes all art and writing and even ideas jotted down in a text post! All Disney media is up for grabs, including animated features and live-action features, and even Pixar if you’re hard-pressed for ideas! So hit up the submission box and have fun!

This blog is awesome.
