while their History teacher is teaching the class about the untruths of Christoper Columbus discovering “America”,

raises their hand and says:

“well, actually…” and proceeds to drop knowledge about how Christoper Columbus was a rapist, a pillager, and even worse, a shit geographer.

And then when I get a phone call from the school, I will smile, and tell them to start teaching accurate history to their students.

That will be a parenting win in my book.

LOL…That was my kid. When Tee was in 8th grade, they took the kids to Williamsburg, VA (that place where they celebrate the fuck out of Colonial America) and my Black Girl child was thoroughly disgusted by the Happy Black People and she confronted the tour guide:

“Why do you all have these slaves looking all joyous? They are SLAVES. They were stolen from their homes and forced to work for the people that stole them. This place isn’t history! It’s some crazy fantasy!”

The white tour guide lady told her “Their lives were better in America than they were in Africa. That’s why they’re happy. They were glad to be in such a great place.”

Tee said “Lady, you are trippin’.”

That’s when I knew I had done something right. I will never forget that story. 

Peebz wins at parenting.

I had a 4th grade teacher that made us write essays on how Native Americans were robbed of their land and staple them into our history books over the chapter about Columbus called “This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is My Land”. She created/inspired a class full of trouble makers & my parents loved her for it.
